Art Statement : the power of the
mind, of the image
and the mysterious unity of life.
Odilon Redon was speaking of "the
instinctive faculty to raise the spirit among the domain of mystery"
! If Mystery dwells on the edge of human thought, one can consider
that artistical creation is not badly placed to uncover this mystery
.
I have a few intuitions .
However it is not easy to describe a world of colours when you only
know black and white .
Fortunately, it is rather about to create links of consciousness
with a World of mysteries than to describe It.
It is a common stand to consider that our universe knows boundaries,
have limits, though nobody ask to those who share this general point
of view to explain, as a proof of it, what we should find beyond our
Universe limits.
Doubt also can lead out into enlightening and comforting truths .
I think, like ancient Egyptians did, like agnostics ancient Grees
did or numerous peoples of the nowadays Earth do, that Reality is a
projection of our mind. This, is the Truth ! The same way that our
universe is a projection of a lone very dense atom, the materiality
of what is surrounding us ( which surround our spirit ) is a
creation of our spirit .
One must not underestimate the power of the mind to create reality.
For instance, the dreams we are dreaming of are true images created
by our mind, real enough to re-organize our brain during the sleep;
In truth, i have the intuition that we are only pure spirits .
Curiosity leads us to ask ourselves where these pure spirits truly
find themselves when they are not in the flesh? Or precisely
speaking, where is the original existence of these consciousnesses ?
In a certain way, it is what my painting is looking for ...
Thus, voluntarily or not, mystery is always present in my work. I
use it not for itself but each time it helps me to carry on towards
the answer of this question.
Neither one must not underestimate the power of the picture .
Did not the ancient Égyptians believe that the objects drawn on the
mausoleum walls surrounding the deceased might be really usefull for
him in the Realm of the dead ?
One may wisely evoke the strength of the Masks in Africa, in Asia,
in South America, for the Native americans and in the Caribbean
world. The power of the pictures is fundamental in so many religions
too .
The power of the image ...
Image have the capacity to create reality which, in its turn,
influence the World.
I am not talking about the influence of the things regarding the
place they are taking up or about the only fact they are existing; i
am talking about their influence upon our mind and even sometimes,
very deeply on our spirit.
In the artistic domain, the image is not only a reality in itself,
it is able to give birth to reality too if it is the expression of
the mind who talks of the Truth, by the way of the intuition as a
method, which i prefer better than the one of enigma dear to Francis
Bacon's heart. The crossing visions of the different cultures of the
peoples of Earth make possible the orientation of the thought who is
seeking ...
Hence the nature culturaly mixed of my painting.
Redon wanted to " put the logical process of the visible at the
service of what is invisible "; i want through my painting, to put
the logical process of the human spiritual concerns at the Truth's
service .
The capacity of the mind is such, that he creates himself his own
material death within the world of the matter.Perhaps because his
absence from this Elsewhere-world that he leaves for incarnation,
for a lifetime on Earth, to embody himself in our universe of
reality, is not lastingly desirable or just possible.
I call this "Elsewhere" also the Truth and i feel myself allowed to
think that the mind is strong on Earth, and specially in Art matter,
when he speaks of this Truth !
To summarize my subject i would say this :
If somebody tell me 2, then 4, then 6, then 8; i have the intuition
that the next number will be 10.
The diversity of the cultures in the world are more or less like an
interrupted series of numerals. The gathering of the human cultures,
and more precisely, the part of the spirituality in these different
visions of the universe, each one is a little stone which leads me
towards a "10", that i may also call the very nature of our
Universe. As much as it is possible for the human beeings to reach
this matter.
This is an universe of "materiallity" where our mind incarnate
itself, but i have the intuition that beyond this universe, other
realities dwells, the contents of whose is unimaginable, even
inconceivable and therefore indescribable. Perhaps is it a conscious
vital magma who contains the whole numbers of our non-incarnated
existences; an immense entity where all human identities ( maybe
more ) are all mixed up, over Time and Space.
I believe that incarnation only allow individual lifes, whom are
separated ones too and inescapablely lonely ones. I think that over
there, we are but One !
I have the conviction that the duty of a painter consist, with the
help of emotions and the power of the image, in preparing the human
spirits to face this distressing situation.
