Biography
Brustier is a self-taught painter. Born in Toulouse in 1959, he
crossed five continents in citizen of the world, what moreover led
him to be designed an Honorary Citizen of the city Detroit, in
Michigan, USA, and "received the keys of the city" (only the other
Frenchman, the commander J.J. Cousteau had been thus distinguished
before him).
Complex and unique trajectory of a multiple man, bis father is a
Guadelupean, an island also called Karukera in the French West
Indies; his mother Nivernaise, in the center of France; white and
black but not grey, which will begin on the banks of the Garonne, to
drive him from those of the river Saint Louis and then to the Nile;
from the seaside of the Mediterranean Sea to Bosphorus, from the
Cape, in South Africa, to the Lakr Michigan.
In love with New York and Chicago, in man of connection because man
of periphery, it is the
defender of the martyrs children annd the friend of Angela Davis and
Nelson Mandela so many tasks that he will carry out within the
framework of official functions.
It is above all a painter, a painter of the revival and the
intensity.
Fascinated by drawing, it is a first and since the very childhood,
in this demanding discipline that he will exercise his talent,
working relentlessly the curvature of a gesture, the subtle play of
the shadows and the light, the expressiveness of an attitude. This
insatiable search will find its natural continuation when he will
tackled the painting, there is about fifteen years.
Ted Landsmark, President of the University of Architecture of the
city of Boston, Massachusetts, was the first one to involved bimself
in his work, calling him at his side in 2002, to professionalized
his process according to the art market world.
Next year apersonal exhibition is dedicated to him, inJuly in the
prestigious place of "Mirondela dels arts" in the historic
center of the city of Pézenas, in France (Hérault); city of art,
first one at the national plan in term of pictorial exhibition, in
summer time; where were presented about twenty of his paintings.
This event was greeted by the press.
The artist then hung on one of his works, "Jordan at Pompéï" -oil on
canevas, 100 x 150 cm, in the cymas of the "Salon d’Automne" of
Paris, from 13 till 25 November 2004.
Medal-holder in the "Salon Internationnal de Peinture de Perpignan"
2005 -"Character in multicolored lines", 235 x 167 cm-, an other one
of his works- "Portrait with a bosom naked" 100 x 150 cm- is besides,
selected to participate in the "Salon des Artistes Français" which
is held from 26 till 31 October 2005 in the floral park of Paris,
France.
He also have a personnal exhibition the same year in Paris (gallery
Thuiliier in the 3rd district, few meters beside the Picasso
Muséum).
In September 2006, M. Toshifumi Magori, President of the Japan
International Artists Society
organizes in China, in Tianjin (4th city of China, ten million
inhabitants) an international exhibition. He selects among thousands
of other artists, a work of Brustier - "Maxence under the sun" -oil
and résins on canevas, 100 x 80 cm- Which will be exposed beside 150
other international artists to the National Muséum of Tianjin.
The summer 2007 is full of happy
events, it is the great pleasure of Brustier to answer yes to the
Saatchi Gallery of London wish, to see him joining the artists
supported by this prestigious House, in order for him to exhibit his
work on the "Your Gallery" site of this extraordinary artists friend
who is Charles Saatchi.
In September of the same year, he exhibits some of his paintings at
the "Broadway Gallery" (473 Broadway 7th Floor, New York, NY 10013 US)
; this exhibition is echoed by the press - NY Arts Magazine Tips &
Picks feature, Art Fairs International Magazines distributed in
China, NY Arts Annual Art Catalog, etc...
December 2007, the ScopeMiami and the
Art Basel Miami Beach, american main fair of contemporary art ,
present five of his works.
From the 8th to the 11th of February 2008, the Gaudi Gallery of
Madrid, Spain, exhibit six big-format oil on canvas of the painter
at the International Fair of Art of Innsbruck, Austria.
Again six big-format oil on canvas at
the "Kunstart", the International Fair of modern and contemporary
Art of Bolzano, Italy from the 23rd to the 25th May 2008 .
